Supplier registration and portal now open

Following on from a successful introductory webinar in September 2021, which can be viewed here, renewable energy company Drax is continuing a programme of supplier engagement to help deliver its pioneering bioenergy with carbon capture and storage (BECCS) project in the Humber. BECCS is a climate-saving negative emissions technology that will be critical to helping the UK reach net zero while putting the Humber region at the heart of a global green economy.

Drax are inviting new and prospective suppliers to attend one of two roadshow events across the Humber and Teesside to learn more about how to get involved with BECCS at Drax. The roadshow events will be co-hosted by Drax and our FEED partners, Worley. Suppliers hoping to work on the project will have the opportunity to discuss detailed plans for construction of BECCS at Drax with Drax and Worley engineers and submit a formal expression of interest for the project via the supplier registration portal, Requis. Click here

FAQs

What is Bioenergy with carbon capture and storage (BECCS)?

Bioenergy with carbon capture and storage (BECCS) is a technology that has been developed to remove carbon dioxide (CO2) from the atmosphere. At Drax Power Station we already use biomass sourced from sustainably managed forests to generate electricity, and we now plan to install BECCS technology to capture the CO2 emitted as part of that energy generation. The process of electricity generation becomes carbon negative, as more CO2 has been removed from the atmosphere than has been added. The captured CO2 will be transported via pipeline and stored permanently under the seabed of the North Sea by our partners in the East Coast Cluster.

What’s the latest update on the BECCs at Drax Programme?

The BECCS at Drax project is one of the most advanced CCS projects under development in the UK and is an anchor project in the East Coast Cluster. Recent developments include:

  • First CCS project in the UK to announce a capture technology licence agreement with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries in June 2021
  • Worley selected as EPC partner in December 2021
  • FEED study commenced January 2022
  • Development Consent Order application initiated, with final submission expected in Q2 2022

I’ve previously signed up through the NOF database, do I need to register again?

If you are a supplier hoping to work on the BECCS at Drax project and have registered for the Drax BECCS supplier database via NOF, you must also submit a formal expression of interest for the project via supplier registration portal, Requis. Click here
